Virginia USA, February 24 (Surinder Dhillion) There is a debate among the Indian-American community about why there are more North Indians on deportation flights from the US than South Indians. I have lived in the US for almost a quarter of a century. I have also met many South Indians and have seen a huge difference in their thinking compared to North Indians. Today I will share information about this with you.
You may find it surprising that the differences in the migration patterns of North and South Indians to the US can be due to a number of reasons. I understand that immigration can be a complex issue, and I would like to share with you some information about why South Indians rarely appear on US deportation flights and why there are more people from North Indian and non-Southern states and states like Gujarat.
A major reason is that South Indians often migrate through legal channels, such as work visas, student visas, or family reunification programs, which reduce the risk of undocumented status and subsequent deportation. They have a very strong migration network that relies solely on legal channels. They help each other. And the most important thing is that they do not pay money to brokers. Only the necessary fees are charged. Whereas in non-Southern states, there is a well-established migration network that claims to facilitate illegal entry into the US and they are 50 -6 million dollars are illegally sent, which is a dangerous method and such a network includes selfish people who are human traffickers who exploit migrants by showing them good jobs and this business is going on openly without anyone asking. Whereas South Indian migration depends on the migrant communities with legal channels. Both the US and Indian governments have policies and agreements that facilitate legal migration and resolve immigration issues which later reduce the chances of deportation. In addition, South Indians often migrate for higher education or skilled employment which is based on legal documents. Whereas people from states like North India and Gujarat who are either not educated or those who are educated and do not get skilled employment opportunities resort to illegal migration and the society considers going to America to be a big deal. North India, especially in states like Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh, has very high economic inequality and unemployment rate. Another major reason is the economic condition of the people of North and South India and economic inequality is common. In states like Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh of North India, along with economic inequality, unemployment is also a big reason that they are also forced to go abroad to improve their economic condition and are being guided by agents on illegal routes. On the other hand, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Karnataka and the adjoining states generally have better economic conditions and high literacy, meaning people are more educated, due to which they choose more legal migration routes.
To facilitate legal migration from South India, the Government of India has several policies and support systems, including educational scholarships, work visas and family reunification programs, etc. Another important reason is the cultural reason due to which there are cultural differences in the migration of people from North and South India. South Indians mainly prioritize education and professional development, this is the main part of their culture, which leads to higher education and skilled workers. Legal immigration for jobs is encouraged. North Indians, who lack a culture of education and skilled trades and are facing immediate economic pressures, quickly prioritize economic gain through illegal immigration. These are some of the main reasons why North Indians are more likely to be on deportation flights from the US than South Indians as a group.
